Dear colleagues,

The school is open to Master students in Physics, who have completed three years of studies, Post-docs and to PhD students. Scientists from any background interested in discovering the field are also welcome to join.
The European Summer School of the University of Strasbourg is a prestigious one-week meeting of students from all over Europe.
Students present their research projects and attend lectures on one of the most recent topics in Physics presented by internationally known scientists.

The scientific programme (see below and www page) consists of lectures of 2x45 minutes each and workshops where students work in small groups under the guidance of senior researchers.
This is complemented by visits to laboratories and a poster session prepared and presented by the participants.
Besides the scientific programme the participants will have the opportunity to explore the cultural and political heritage of the Alsace Region and Strasbourg, where the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and European Court of Human Rights are located.

The European Summer School 2017 is organized jointly with the Institute for Nuclear Waste Disposal (INE), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany.

The School is sponsored by the French Excellence Initiative (IdEx) via the University of Strasbourg, the French-German University (UFA-DFH) and the Institute for Nuclear and Particle Physics (IN2P3) CNRS, France.

The Registration is foreseen for Monday afternoon, lectures will start on Tuesday morning, August 22nd 8h30 and will end on Friday late afternoon, August 25th.

The programme will include:

D'ERRICO, Francesco, University of Pisa Italy/Yale University USA
A revival of neutron detection with superheated emulsions : application in nuclear materiel interdiction and non-proliferation verification

SILARI, Marco, University of Milano Italy/CERN Geneva, Switzerland
A distributed network of sensors for on line remote control of radioactivity in waste containers

ASSENMACHER, Frank, Paul Scherrer Institut, Zurich Switzerland
Quality assurance in Personal and Environmental Dosimetry for Radio-Photoluminescence Dosimetry

SOHRABI, Mehdi, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria
A Standardized Individual Dose System for Epidemiology of Public and Workers by Universal Radiation Protection System Hypothesis

WISS, Thierry (tbc.), European Commission, Joint Research Centre, Karlsruhe, Germany
Characterization of nuclear and radioactive material

GECKEIS Horst, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Institute for Nuclear Waste Disposal, Germany
Advanced nuclear analytical tools applied to environmental radioanalysis

ARBOR, Nicolas, IPHC and Strasbourg University, France
Nuclear instrumentation

EL BITAR, Ziad, IPHC and Strasbourg University, France
